Lisa
Thornton is inspired by industrial structures and movement to create modern
and interactive jewellery pieces. She works predominately in precious metals
sometimes combined with polyester resin. Since graduating in 2005, her recent
collection with spinning components experiment with the relationship to the
body and the interaction of the wearer.
In
drawing on elements of the stadium, the cable masts and the roof structure
to develop a neckpiece reflecting the energy of Manchester. The combination
of Gold and Silver highlight the shape and formation of the roof as it steps
and curves encircling the neck. Creating an industrial and futuristic look
the aligned cables and structured circular sections compliment the body with
sophisticated manipulation of form and balance. Lisa perceives her work as
both sculptural objects as well as wearable jewellery.
